How a Bowling Birthday Party Really “Bowled Me Over”
I recently took my kids to a birthday party, no surprise there… with three kids we are normally attending a birthday party for friends or family members at least a few times a month. I have been to tons of kids parties in the last few years, but this one that we went to recently really “bowled me over”.
It was for my eight year old nephew who has recently fallen in love with bowling, so his parents naturally threw him a Bowling themed birthday party. The location of the party? A bowling alley of course… they had found a smoke free bowling alley that was very family friendly to host their party.
The cake was a bowling alley with plastic pins and a ball… he loved it! For his birthday his parents gave him his very own bowling bag, bowling shoes, and bowing ball for him to use. What better way to encourage his new hobby than to personalize it for him?
After cake and ice cream were served with bowling themed plates, cups, and napkins and gifts were opened in a party room off to the side, we hit the lanes. All of us, parents and kids were all bowling, laughing, and having a great time together listening to great music and watching the kids struggling to get the balls down the lanes.
Most kids parties are full of games that kids can play and lots of parents standing around chatting with people they may or may not know… not this one. The ice was broken easily between strangers as they talked about bowling tips, scores, and their kids.
I have to say, it may not be the most creative theme for a party but it was by far one of the most successful that I have been to in a long time. A great birthday tip that can be learned from this party is, “You need to try to entertain everyone that is involved… not just the kids.”
Another great sign that you have thrown a great birthday party for your kids… when all the kids are saying to their parents, “I want to have my birthday party just like this one!” Just so you know Melissa, you had three requests like that from my children and several others I overheard as we were leaving the building… I’d say the party was a hit… or maybe I should say it was a strike.
