Want a Unique Baby Shower Theme? Try a Children’s Book Themed Baby Shower
Do you know an expectant mom who loves to read? Are you looking for a great baby shower theme that will be unique and special? Consider throwing a children’s picture books baby shower theme.
Studies show that babies who are read to from a very early age are more likely to speak and read at earlier ages. They are exposed to a wider variety of vocabulary through the pages of children’s books and starting a very early age they can enjoy looking at the pictures.
I used to sit and read picture books to my newborn while I would nurse or feed them a bottle, I would also read to them sometimes when they were awake… they may have not understood what I was saying but I know they liked the sound of my voice.
When sending out your baby shower invitations ask that your guests bring a copy of a favorite children’s book. Have them write in the book what it is and who it is from, as children will cherish these special books when they get older.
At the shower you can have each guest tell about the book that they brought and even have a few special books for the mother that can be read aloud. There are some great picture books that really capture the essence of being a mother that would special and appropriate at a shower. Check out Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, Let’s Go On a Mommy Date by Karen Kingsbury, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, and No Matter What by Debi Gliori.
Here are a few other ways to expand on this shower theme… you could have the shower cake done to look like the mother-to-be’s favorite picture book cover.
A large gift that the hostess could give to the mother-to-be would be a great bookshelf for the baby’s room. One that matches the furniture they registered for or that matches the decor in their room.
Or have everyone at the shower write a note to the new baby and then take the guest’s picture. The hostess can put these all in a blank scrapbook and create a special, personalized book for the baby to enjoy someday.
Picture books are a great gift for any new baby or mother to be because you can’t start reading to your children too early so they also make a great shower theme. Give it a try…

That’s a wonderful idea. Our home is stuffed to the gills with picture books, early reader books, well, actually … with books of all sorts. Reading to your child is a win-win. You get time with him/her and he/she gets pain-free brain development.

Picture books are those leisure stuff for kids that I didn’t have as a child. I’d always stand in awe in our old school library but never got to read much because I was scared of the high shelves.

Great post. Picture books are really beneficial for the kids especially when exposed to these books at such a very young age. I’m believer of reading to your newborn. It really does improve their intellectual capabilities. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great idea! I used to be an avid reader of Enid Blyton, as a kid, and I think I would bring a copy of her Noddy stories as a shower gift. Mom and dad would probably get as much fun out of reading them as the kids would listening to them!
