See How Easily You Can Save Money On Your Child’s Halloween Costume This Year
Halloween is creeping closer to us on the calendar and many parents, myself included, have begun to think about what our children will be dressing up as this year. Halloween costumes can range from simple to elaborate and the prices can fluctuate as much as the costumes can vary.
Parents can expect to spend an average $15.00-20.00 per child on a Halloween costume. If you, like my family, have more than one child, the cost of outfitting each of them can really add up.
One great way to keep that cost down is to try an idea that I started doing with my group of friends a few years ago, a costume exchange. We all get together on a Saturday afternoon and bring all of our old dress up clothes and outgrown Halloween costumes.
Each of us label our costumes with our initials so that we can reclaim them at the end of the day. Then we place all of the clothes into one large pile in the center of the room and let the kids go wild playing dress up.
It usually lasts at least an hour, sometimes more… and by the end of the afternoon each of the kids has normally found a wonderful costume that they want to wear to trick or treat on Halloween.
Doing this allows all of us to save money on purchasing expensive Halloween costumes and to have a fun and creative play date where the kids can get together with friends and play.
Normally, we also will have some fall games organized for the kids to play and Halloween themed snacks for everyone to enjoy as well. Some simple ideas for activities that you could do at your costume exchange are: bobbing for apples, ring toss, have a costume fashion show where everyone can model their favorite costume of the day, painting pumpkins, having parents help children carve pumpkins, and much more.
I hope that you and your children enjoy this simple idea of hosting your own costume exchange, keep in mind that you may have to purchase small items to accessorize costumes but overall this should help save you and your family some much needed money this Halloween.
