Learning to Master the Art of Multi-Tasking
Mothers everywhere know that with every child you have… you should be given either an extra arm or a built in assistant. Since this is genetically and financially impossible we as mothers must master the age old art of multi-tasking. Learning to be able to do several things all at one time. Today I want to share with you some easy ways that you can learn to multi-task with the best of them.
♦ Learn to make the most of your waiting times
According to the 2003 American Medical Association Statistics the average wait time at most doctor’s offices are on the rise and now averages 20.2 minutes. If you are at a typical Emergency Room you can expect to wait an average of an hour. You wait an average of an hour to board most flights and at least twenty minutes to get your oil changed.
With all of this waiting… mothers should be making the most of it. If you have a school aged child, have them bring their homework to do during the wait.
If you are childless during your wait, you could balance your checkbook, write thank you notes, write your grocery list, make shopping lists, and other time consuming tasks that you can do on the go. So keep a plastic bag in your car of blank thank you notes, birthday cards, and scratch paper for making lists.
♦ Use phone time to get stuff done.
If you are at home and on the telephone with a friend or family member take advantage of the time and look at this list of simple tasks that can be completed during the length of a short phone conversation… if you are on the phone for longer, you could get several done.
• Clean off a counter top
• Wipe down a counter top
• Fold a load of laundry
• Dust
• Clean the Toilet
• Put Clothes Away
• Go through the mail
• Clean out a Drawer
These are just a few ideas that may help you find a way to accomplish just a little bit more during your day. I know that many of them have become a staple in my routines to try to wring every second out of everyday.
