Lower Your Next Grocery Bill With These 10 Practical Money Saving Tips
Times are hard right now. There is no secret about that and we are going to explore together some great money saving tips that parents and families everywhere can try.
Some of these ideas that we post will not be for everyone, but they will all be practical ideas that you can use, modify, or pass along to someone else. One thing is for sure, in this much harder economy… we all need to support each other and share great ideas to help everyone.
One of the first places that a family can start trying to slash costs is at the grocery store. Here are 10 practical, money saving tips to save on your next grocery bill the next time that you visit the grocery store.
♦ Consider making fewer trips to the grocery store. Research shows us that the more times you visit the grocery store in a given time period… the more money you normally spend. That is because often when we run out to just grab a gallon of milk and some bread rarely do we come home with only those two things. So consider stocking up the next time you are at the store to avoid lots of little trips during the week.
♦ Use coupons… I recently started doing this myself. I remember growing up, watching my mother cut coupons every Sunday out of the newspaper… I have never followed in her footsteps until the last month or so and I can tell you I am saving some money. It is worth taking a few extra minutes to cut them out and use them when I check out.
♦ Keep in mind that most grocery stores know to stock their shelves in a way that will give them the advantage. They normally put higher, name brand items at eye line so look around before you buy, you may find a lower priced option down on a lower shelf.
♦ Leave the kids at home. Your grocery bill will climb drastically when you have small hands grabbing their favorites and adding them to the cart. You will also have less guilt about saying no to items and snacks that are expensive and not needed.
♦ Ask for price matching. If another store across town has a sale on your favorite cereal ask your store of choice to match it. Most will and it will save you time and money over having to drive all over town to find the best deals.
♦ Avoid buying convenience foods like frozen meals or box meals. They can only be used to make the one meal… buying ingredients, fresh produce, and meat… can be stretched into more meals and often will cost less per meal.
♦ Don’t buy non-grocery items at the grocery stores. Light Bulbs, laundry soap, trash bags, etc… will ALWAYS cost more at the grocery store than almost anywhere else… you are paying for convenience and it is not always cost effective so beware of it.
♦ Have a snack first. It may sound silly but studies show us that when you are hungry, you purchase more at the grocery store than you will if your stomach is full.
♦ Make a list and stick to it! This is one of the best ways to save money.
♦ Buy off brands, most of them taste very similar and will save you big time.
These are just a few of many practical ways that we all start to cut our grocery bills back a little bit. I encourage you to try a few and see if you notice a difference the next time that you go to the store.
