5 Easy “Can you cut my crust off?” Solutions Reviewed
As you know I have three kiddos at home with me and two of the three REFUSE to eat bread with crust on it. If mistakenly served a sandwich where the crust was neglectfully left intact… watch out, they will quickly let you know your error. I have been scouting out the market for products that will save me time and frustration in doing this mundane task each time with sandwiches or toast.
I wanted to share with you some of the sandwich crust cutter products that I have tried in the last few months and information about each of them. First I looked into two food products that remove the crust from the bread for you.
♦ Smuckers’ Uncrustables
Smuckers makes a product called “Uncrustables” that I LOVE for days that we are in a hurry in the mornings. They come in five different flavors; Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jelly, Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly, Peanut Butter and Honey on Wheat Bread, Cheese, and Peanut Butter alone. These sandwiches are sold in boxes with four sandwiches in each box.
They are individually plastic wrapped and sealed for freshness and can be found in your Grocer’s Freezer aisle. Yes, the freezer aisle, which makes them perfect for days when we are rushing to make school lunches. I can throw a frozen one in a lunch box at 7:30 am and by 11:30 am it is thawed and ready for my picky eater’s lunch hour. With this product you are paying for convenience, a box of four averages about $2.50 in most grocery stores. I have found off brands at places like Sam’s that offer similar products, so shop around for the best deal and look for coupons!
♦ Sarah Lee’s Crust-Less Bread
The second food product that I have tried is Sarah Lee’s crust-less bread. You can purchase this loaf of bread in your Grocery store’s regular bread aisle with the crust already removed for you. Be prepared to pay about 75 cents more per loaf than a regular “crusted” loaf of bread. The average price for Sarah Lee’s product is between $2.59 and $3.39 a loaf. For me the cost did not outweigh the convenience, so my family didn’t purchase a second loaf since I had to make my kids two sandwiches instead of one due to the smaller size of the bread.
I wanted to look into products that would allow me to use traditional crusted bread but make it easier to decrust it for my kids. I found three products that we purchased and have tried, check them out for yourself by following the links provided.
♦ Pampered Chef’s Cut and Seal
The first product that I tried is the Pampered Chef’s Cut and Seal. For $9 you can purchase this tool from the website or an independent Pampered Chef Consultant. It is a little tricky to learn to use but once you master the technique the tool comes in handy.
You simply push down on the sandwich to cut the bread into a circle and then depress the plunger in the middle to crimp the edges and seal in your ingredients. This tool is great for PB and J sandwiches… but not so good for thick meats. I have found lots of other good uses for the tool though like making pizza, taco, and breakfast pockets. I would recommend this product because it’s versatile and inexpensive.
♦ Mini Cookie and Cheese Cutters
The next tool that I purchased was a set of mini cookie and cheese cutters. They are small so I used them to cut sandwiches into fun, bite sized shapes and my kids love them!!!! I don’t use it as often as I thought I would because it is by far the most time consuming option, and it seems to waste a lot of the bread as you cut the shapes out. I do use this for fun snack size sandwiches or when they have friends over sometimes for lunch. I found my set at my local Walmart a year or so ago… but you can find them anywhere and in a lot of different price ranges.
♦ DynoBytes DINOSAUR Sandwich Crust Cutter
The final product that we tried, and my vote getter for the greatest product ever is the DynoBytes DINOSAUR Sandwich Crust Cutter! I got it a month ago and my kids beg for me to use it for everything from PB and J, Grilled Cheese, and Toast.
It is a green plastic cutter shaped like a piece of bread on the outside but the inside cuts your bread into to equal sized dinosaurs… with no crust. It was the best value at $2.25 and it wastes the least amount of bread of all the products I tried… I LOVE, LOVE this product!
I hope these first hand product reviews from my kitchen are helpful if you are struggling with the kids who also hate bread crust!
