The 411 on Creating Your Baby Registry, Part One

Posted by Christie in Gifts

This is the first in a two part post series this week that will deal with the daunting task of creating your baby registry. For first time parents, knowing where to register and what to register for can be very overwhelming. It is like being dropped off in the middle of foreign country and having no idea how to speak the language.

Many new parents are unaware of words like layette, bassinet, and onesies. Let alone how many of them they need and why. The purpose of this post series is to first explain the purpose of creating a good quality baby registry and letting you know a few keys to look for in picking a store to register at. Then I will share with you must have items you will want to make sure you put on the all important registry.

What is the purpose of a baby registry? Just like the wedding registries that you probably did a few short years ago, it is a wish list or a gift guide for friends and families to follow. Back then, you did not want to receive ten toasters as wedding gifts; similarly, you will not want to receive ten diaper pails at your baby showers.

Since each couple chooses to parent their children in unique and different ways, they each require different products to assist them. Some parents choose to use the convenience of disposable diapers while others are electing to try the budget friendly option of cloth diapers. Mothers are spilt in their preferences of feeding their new babies; breast or bottle, both will require registries to focus on different items. These difficult choices are ones that we will explore in detail in later posts; however, for today just keep in mind that those decisions will have an impact on your registry.

Another thing that you are going to want to keep in mind when putting together your baby registry is the services offered by the stores that you choose to register with. One of the main services that you will want to make sure a store has is online access to your registry. This ensures a few things, first it allows friends and family that are out of town to have the ability to purchase a gift off of your registry easily. Another thing that it does is allow those individuals who prefer to shop online to do.

A few other important features that you want to look for in a store that you are registering is an easy return policy. You want to keep your registry as easy as possible for shoppers so pick a store with good customer service, this should help ensure the accuracy of the purchases that gift givers make. Also looking for a store that caters to baby products will give you the largest amount of selection of products.

Now that you know exactly what the purpose of your baby registry is and how to choose the best stores to register at you are ready to put your registry together. In our next post we will show you some key items to keep in mind as you are registering.
