The 411 on Creating Your Baby Registry, Part Two

Posted by Christie in Gifts on Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Okay so now that you know what the purpose of a baby registry is and what to look for in a store to set up your registry at, it is time to learn what to put on a baby registry. The must have items in baby care are constantly changing and evolving to meet the ever changing needs of today’s busy parents.

So let’s break down the items into categories… so that you at least know what aisle to find the items in when you walk into the baby emporium like an alien who has been dropped on this foreign planet of diapers, bottles, and pacifiers.

Keep in mind one very important thing… research the items that you are going to register for before you get to the store. Ask other mothers what products or brands that they liked and disliked to ensure you are getting the best products out there.

♦ Baby Clothing

First, let’s head to the clothing section. Here is where most new parents make a BIG mistake. You become so overwhelmed with the cuteness factor of all the tiny clothes that you tend to fill your registry with outfits, onesies, socks, etc… This is not something that I would recommend for two reasons. One, every baby grows at a different rate so what may be season appropriate by the calendar… may not fit your baby at the right time. The other reason is, clothes are not that expensive and you will find that you will receive tons… so fill your registry mostly with other must have items. If you do want to register for clothing I would suggest registering for larger clothing items like a snowsuit or a winter jacket.

♦ Baby Care

Next aisle, is the baby care aisle… this is where your trigger finger on that registry gun is going to get a real workout. It is easy to go overboard in this aisle because there are so many products that look interesting and you assume you must have them. Here is a quick list of items you need to include… other than that is up to you.

- Baby Bath Tub or Bath Sling

- Bath Towels (hooded are best)
