The Octuplets Story… I’m speechless…

Posted by Christie in Daily Life, Health & Care

I have three children running around my house, and many days I feel like I am living at a funny farm. That being said, I can’t imagine having FOURTEEN children now at home!!! Have you heard about this woman who just gave birth this week to octuplets after already having six children at home???

The California mom has ignited a firestorm from seemingly every media outlet, talk show host, and medical ethics experts. All of her children were concieved by having frozen embroys implanted and people are outraged that her OBGYN would continue to repeat this procedure for her.

Even her own mother is speaking out against her daughter… saying that the daughter is unmarried, living at home, and having her raise her other six children ages 2-7.

Normally, with big births like this the family is showered with a years supply of diapers, or formula, a new van, a reality show, etc… our country has always seemed to be obsessed with these kind of stories. However, there have been no such offers for this new mother. It seems that companies are choosing to stay away from the controversy worried about threats of boycotting from outraged customers that see this woman’s actions as irresponsible.

I have listened to this entire saga play out on various cable news shows all week… and I have been rendered virtually speechless. I understand loving children… but really FOURTEEN? I have been a single mother of three and it was the hardest thing I ever did… I can’t imagine trying to raise FOURTEEN of them on my own. Which seems to be what is going to happen now that her mother has come out and said she is not going to help anymore.

Large families tend to be the new trend of this generation with families now having 3-4 children instead of 1-2… but FOURTEEN? This woman has taken the concept of LARGE family to a new extreme!!!

The whole story seems so outlandish that I have a hard time believing it isn’t a Hollywood creation like the blockbuster Cheaper By the Dozen. The difference with that story and this true life drama is… Steve Martin’s fictional family was able to raise their family on their own merits… it doesn’t sound like she has been doing that.

I hope that her OBGYN will definitely rule out any further embryo implantation… and has enough common sense to council here that more babies isn’t healthy for her body or her family. I hope that she is able to back out of the spotlight and controversy and go home to focus on raising her large family. I am shocked at her choices… but I am hopeful that she will make the most important choice… to be a great mother to ALL of her children.

What do you think about this story? I would love to hear your opinions on this controversial story so feel free to share your thoughts with us via the comments box below.

Having fourteen kids aged 2-7 would be one hell of a headache for any mom. And what more of a headache it is going to be once she has to start finding a way to send all of them to school. One dose of medication tramadol might not be enough to help her out tee hee…Anyway, seriously speaking, it is very irresponsible of her and her obgyn to allow this to happen. With so many kids, how can she provide enough love and attention for all of them?
